How Web Resources Have Modernized the World Wide Web A web resource is anything that can be located on the internet. Examples of web resources include databases, web services, web pages, and e-mail. Resources that can be found on the web at present are very much different from those that were available at the inception of the internet. In the early times, documents on the internet could only be displayed the way they were added. Nowadays, the web has become dynamic and only displays information that you are looking for. In fact, anything that can be obtained through the internet is a web resource. Uniform Resource Locators (URLs), are mediums used to identify a web resource on the internet. Emergence of search engines
If You Think You Get Services, Then This Might Change Your Mind
In the early days of the web, documents weren’t placed in a central location. This meant that you had to remember the URL of a web resource in order to access it. With time, directories were developed to categorize information on the web. However, many directories were later developed and some contained fewer websites. It became quite a hassle to find what you were specifically looking for.
22 Lessons Learned: Resources
Search engines took advantage of directories and brought about a simpler way of finding information stored in directories. With search engines, you didn’t have to know the name of the resource -rather, you simply had to type in a keyword and get results. However, search engines too don’t have everything available on the web since some web resources -such as premium content that is only availed to subscribers -cannot be indexed by search engines. Search engines crawl the web for web resources, index the content, and provide an interface through which users interact with the information that has been retrieved. This is achieved through an algorithm which are sets of rules which determine how pages are ranked and retrieved on the search engine results. This has enabled the work of sorting, indexing, ranking, and retrieving information to be left to automated programs. How to evaluate results from search engines While search engines have revolutionized access to web resources, this doesn’t mean that you will always get helpful information with every search. While everyone can post information on the internet, some people use this chance to post information that is incorrect and damaging. Before you cite or use a web resource, you need to evaluate it. The URL is the first thing to consider when evaluating a web resource. Check the format of the URL, name of the domain, who published it, and its type. A commercial domain doesn’t look similar to a military, educational, or government domain. Next, you have to look at the resources cited and the author of the content in the domain. Finally, check the opinion and links to the site. Evaluation is the best way you can use to ensure that you are getting credible information from the web.
